Triple-header this weekend at home

FAYETTEVILLE — The No. 20-ranked Razorback women’s tennis team returns home this weekend for three matches set to be played at the Dills Indoor Tennis Center. After spending the last two weekends on the road, the Hogs are set to host Memphis and Oral Roberts on Friday for their first home match in nearly three weeks and No. 35 Oklahoma on Sunday. Arkansas is coming off a two match split last weekend where they dropped a match against No. 40 Rice, but picked up a win against No. 32 TCU.

“We had a really good trip down to Texas over the weekend,” said head coach Michael Hegarty. “We got to play a lot of outdoor tennis, which is good for us this early in the spring semester. We had a tough loss, but also had a good win and I’m real pleased with the way the trip ended up with the win over TCU. They have a good team and that helps us as we get to the end of our non-conference schedule.”

Arkansas (7-2) has boasted a solid non-conference record so far this season as both losses have come against ranked opponents and the majority of their wins have been on the comforts of their own courts. Coming into this weekend, the Hogs lead the all-time series with Oral Roberts, 9-3, with their last match being played just last season in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Razorbacks shut-out the Golden Eagles that day, 4-0.

Against the Memphis Tigers, Arkansas holds a huge lead in that series as well, 13-2. The last matchup between the two teams was also played last year as the Hogs won in a shutout, 7-0.

In the last match of the weekend, the Hogs will take on a ranked Sooners team that is fresh off a huge win over previously No. 34 Tulsa and extended their undefeated record to 6-0. The all-time series between Arkansas and Oklahoma is fairly even with the Razorbacks holding a slight 12-11 lead. The two teams last faced each other in the 2006-2007 season.

“Oklahoma is probably the toughest team this weekend,” said Hegarty. “We want to get a lot done in the two matches on Friday, so we can be ready for Sunday’s match and have a lot of preparation for the start of SEC play.”

The first match on Friday will be played against Memphis at the Dills Tennis Center. The first serve for that match is set for noon and the second match against Oral Roberts will immediately follow at 4 p.m. Sunday’s match against Oklahoma will be the only match for the Hogs that day as the first serve set for noon as well.
