Tubert earns exemption

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – University of Arkansas sophomore-to-be Emily Tubert earned a sponsor’s exemption to play in the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship presented by P&G at Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers, Ark., this fall.

Tubert is the fifth Razorback women’s golfer to earn a sponsor’s exemption and will be the 12th player in program history to take part in the event since it began in 2007.

"It is such an honor to be selected to compete in this amazing event," Tubert said. "I amespecially honored to bea part ofthe tradition of including players from the University of Arkansas.I watched the tournament last year and was so impressed by all of the support of the community. The Calling of the Hogs on 17, gave me goose bumps. (Former Razorback) Stacy Lewis is a wonderful success story from the university and I am excited tohave the opportunityto compete with her and the other great LPGA players."

The event is scheduled for Sept. 5-11, 2011, and falls outside the Razorbacks’ regular season schedule.

Tubert joins former Razorbacks Stacy Lewis (2007, 2008), Lucy Nunn (2009), and Kelli Shean (2010) who earned exemptions. Nunn, Shean, Kristin Ingram, Victoria Vela and Corinna Rees have all taken part in the play-in round.

The Razorbacks have also historically been granted two play-in positions in Monday’s qualifier and hope to again have the opportunity for two team members to join Tubert in the field.

"I’ve said many times that I couldn’t be more proud of Emily and the accomplishments she has achieved as a Razorback," Arkansas head coach Shauna Estes-Taylor said. "Earning an exemption into this event, which is quickly becoming a premier event on Tour, is another feather for her cap and she has a long way to go in her collegiate career. The sky is the limit for this young lady and I’m excited that Razorback fans will have a chance to see her and support her against the world’s best players."
