Tubert, Lopez earn honor

FAYETTEVILLE — University of Arkansas junior Emily Tubert and freshman Gabriela Lopez earned Golfweek All-America honors, the publication announced today. Golfweek’s All-America teams are determined by players’ order in the Golfweek/Sagarin College rankings. Tubert earned third-team honors while Lopez was an honorable mention. “
Both Emily and Gaby worked hard this season and had some great performances on the golf course," Arkansas head coach Shauna Estes-Taylor said. “I’m proud of both of them and excited about the group of student-athletes we have coming back in the fall and I know that we can again count on Emily and Gaby to continue to elevate our program to even greater heights.” Tubert, a Burbank, Calif., native earned National Golf Coaches Association honorable mention All-America honors earlier this year. She qualified for the U.S. Women’s Open shooting a 143 at the Sectional Qualifier in West Palm Beach, Fla., at Bear Lakes Country Club. She shot 69-74 and her first round score was the lowest of the qualifier. Tubert, who was a first-team All-Southeastern Conference selection, paced the Razorbacks for the third consecutive season averaging 73.41 strokes per round in 34 rounds as a junior. She picked up two individual wins bringing her career total to five. Tubert ranks 29th in the country in the Golfweek standings with a 71.91 rating and 18 wins against the top 25. She had six top 10 finishes leading the Razorbacks to eight top 10 places in 13 events this season. For her career, Tubert has competed in 33 events, playing 101 rounds with a 72.68 stroke average and 0.88 mark against par. Her lowest round is a 63, scored in Las Vegas and she has had 13 rounds in the 60s. Lopez makes her first appearance on the Golfweek All-America team. The Mexico City, Mexico, native was second on the team with a 73.77 stroke average. Lopez picked up her first collegiate win with medalist honors at the Westbrook Invitational and tied the Razorback school record with a 66 in the third round of the event. Lopez was an All-SEC second-team selection and was selected to the SEC All-Freshman team this season. She ranks 40th in the Golfweek rankings. Lopez earned a sponsor’s exemption and is playing in the Monday qualifier of the Walmart NW Arkansas LPGA Championship at Pinnacle Country Club later this month. The duo paced Arkansas to a No. 8 final ranking after tying for 13th at the NCAA Championship.
