Tubert recognized by SEC

FAYETTEVILLE – University of Arkansas freshman Emily Tubert was selected to the Southeastern Conference Fall Golf Honor Roll, the league office announced.

The award was created this fall to honor league student-athletes for their fall successes. The SEC honors players weekly in the spring with the SEC Women’s Golfer of the Week.

"This is a great honor for Emily to be recognized to the SEC Fall Golf Honor Roll," Arkansas head coach Shauna Estes-Taylor said. "She has come into our program and has had an immediate impact. She is an incredible young lady on and off the golf course. She is a great leader on our team and has definitely gotten out of the blocks very strong. She is the complete package and I look forward to helping her grow into her talent even more."

Tubert, a Burbank, Calif., native, blasted out of the gates in her first semester of collegiate golf winning two of the four individual titles.

Tubert opened her collegiate career leading Arkansas to the team title at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic in Norman, Okla. She won the individual title shooting a five-under 211 with rounds of 69-72-70 for the two-shot victory.

Tubert was again solid at the Mercedes Benz Collegiate finishing with a three-over 219 against what Estes-Taylor called a "championship" field that included several SEC teams. She shot 74-73-72 helping the Razorbacks to a runner-up team finish.

Tubert and the Razorbacks were again on top of the leaderboard at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown. Arkansas won the event with a school-record 18-under 846, 23 strokes better than the second-place team.

Tubert carded a school record 11-under 205 with an opening round school record 63. She added rounds of 68-74 to finish five strokes better than second place.

Tubert and the Razorbacks wrapped up the fall at the Pac 10-SEC Challenge in Palo Alto, Calif., where she carded a 225 with rounds of 71-76-78.

As the fall second came to a close, Tubert was second on the team with a 71.67 stroke average. She is the only true freshman in program history to win her first collegiate event and the only one to win two events in the fall.

Tubert and the Razorbacks return to action February, 21-22 at the Central District Invitational in Parrish, Fla.
