Two Event Wins For Arkansas On Day One

Day One Results

NASHVILLE — The No. 2 Arkansas women’s track and field team opened up its two-day weekend of competition in Nashville in outstanding fashion, picking up two event wins in the 200-meter dash and distance medley relay (DMR).

Senior sprinter Daina Harper was the top individual performer of the night, covering 200 meters in 24.20 seconds to win the event. Along with Harper, Kelsey Herman and Taliyah Brooks both finished among the best in the dash, placing sixth and seventh, respectively.

Elsewhere on the track, Arkansas’ distance medley relay (DMR) team comprised entirely of underclassmen put forth an excellent effort, finishing first off the heels of a tremendous mile anchor in cross country All-American Taylor Werner. Joined by fellow freshmen Carina Viljoen (1,200) and Alex Byrnes (800), as well as sophomore Kailee Sawyer, Werner sealed the deal for the quartet moving up from third position with three laps to go in the race and maintaining her lead.

Additional Notable Performances

  • Long Jump: Leigha Brown set a new lifetime best improving by 3 3/4 inches to mark a jump of 5.78m/18-11 3/4 for a 10th-place finish in the event.
