Two first-place finishes for Razorback divers

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — University of Arkansas senior diver Alex House and sophomore diver Kesha Naylor each picked up first place finishes in the NTC Invitational on Wednesday as the Razorback divers competed against Marshall University during their week at the National Training Center in Indianapolis, Ind.

House placed first on the one-meter board with a score of 288.75, while Naylor earned first place in the three-meter event with a score of 334.05. House also finished second on the three-meter with a score of 320.55. Team scores were not tallied at the meet.

Arkansas diving coach Dale Schultz was impressed with House’s performance on both boards, and mentioned after the meet that the senior was approaching her peak level of performance from last season.

"Alex is finally diving like she did a year ago," Schultz said. "Both her scores today were NCAA Zone qualifying scores."

Schultz commented that Naylor, who is coming off of an impressive performance at the Canadian Winter Diving Championships in December, has hardly trained on the one-meter board but was very impressive on the three-meter.

Senior Liana Bugslag also dove well on the three-meter, notching a score of 279.00 to place third. Junior Alyssa Tomlinson had a strong day for the Razorbacks on the one-meter board, finishing third with a score of 249.53.

Schultz mentioned that as the team continues its rigorous training over the course of the week, it will continue to focus on the platform to prepare for postseason meets.

"We’re going to be incorporating a lot of new dives on the tower, and we’re really looking forward to that," Schultz said. "That’s why we came. We will continue to train on the platform and prepare for the SEC Championships."

The Razorback divers will continue to train in Indianapolis through Jan. 8. The swimming and diving team as a whole resumes competition Saturday, Jan. 14, when it travels to Happy Valley, Pa., for a double dual meet against Penn State and Navy.
