FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Head coach Robert Pulliza and the University of Arkansas volleyball team have announced the addition of two student-athletes for the 2011 season. With their latest signings, the Razorbacks add Christa Alvarez and KC Dobbins for the upcoming season. Both will come to Fayetteville as a freshman. This marks the third recruiting class for Pulliza since becoming the Razorbacks’ head coach.
"With the addition of Christa and KC to our 2011 class, we believe we have put together one of the best recruiting classes in the country," Pulliza said. "Coming in as freshmen to this class, they will both be very good additions to our team."
Alvarez was a defensive specialist/libero for Cinco Ranch High School in Katy, Texas. During her senior season, she was selected to the All-District 17-5A First Team and named the team’s top defender. In 2009, she earned all-district honorable mention accolades. As a junior, she helped Cinco Ranch HS win district and region titles and a third-place finish at the state tournament. In the classroom, Alvarez was a three-time member of the district academic honor roll.
She spent three years with the Texas Tornados and one season with the Texas Pride during her club experience. Most recently, Alvarez was part of the Pride team that finished third at the Big South Qualifier and sixth at the regional tournament. With the Tornadoes, she helped the team to a second-place finish at the Long Star Classic, a top-10 finish at the AAU tournament and a top-20 result at the Junior Olympics.
Dobbins was a setter at Reagan High School in Pfafftown, N.C. She was twice named an All-Conference 10-4A performer. As a senior, Dobbins was also selected to the all-county team and earned Most Outstanding Female Athlete accolades. She helped the team to a county title, two conference championships and a spot in the fourth roundof the 2010 state tournament.
She played club volleyball for the Piedmont Volleyball Club in Greensboro, N.C. Dobbins was selected Best Setter in the 18 Open division at the 2011 Capital Hill Classic in Washington, D.C. She also helped lead the club to three straight Quest Championship titles in the state. In addition to her prowess on the volleyball court, Dobbins also lettered in softball and track and field at Reagan HS.
Alvarez and Dobbins are the fourth and fifth members of Arkansas’ recruiting class for 2011, joining Roslandy Acosta (Vargas, Venezuela), Kasey Heckelman (Bloomington, Ill.) and Marci King (Prescott, Ariz.). This class adds to an impressive run of additions to Razorback volleyball under Pulliza. His first recruiting class included 2009 SEC Freshman of the Year and AVCA All-American Jasmine Norton and SEC All-Freshman performer Amanda Anderson. In 2010, Raymariely Santos became the third SEC All-Freshman selection under Pulliza.
