FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The 10th annual Tyson Invitational will be held Friday, February 13, at the Randal Tyson Track Center, on the campus of the University of Arkansas. The star-studded event will be held from 8-10 p.m. Tickets are available by calling 800-766-4626.
As history shows, the Tyson Invitational brings some of the biggest names in professional and collegiate track and field to the city of Fayetteville – the Track Capital of the World. The 2009 event will be no different as the men’s shot put, women’s pole vault and many other events will be highlighted in a salute to the 2008 USA Track and Field Olympians. Also on hand will be many of the nation’s top collegiate teams, including the Arkansas Razorback men’s and women’s track and field squads.
The elite men’s shot put field from a year ago will be back in action as reigning champion Adam Nelson will look to improve upon his facility-record throw of 73-6 in 2008. Joining him will be 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials Champion Reese Hoffa, former NCAA Champion Dan Taylor, three-time Southeastern Conference Champion and All-American Cory Martin and 2006 NACAC Champion and Jamaican record-holder Dorian Scott.
American record holder and Olympic silver medalist Jenn Stuczynski is set to defend her 2008 winning jump of 15-2.75 in the women’s pole vault. Chasing her will be former Razorback and U.S. Olympian April Steiner Bennett, 2000 Olympic gold medalist Stacy Dragila, former NCAA Champion Lacy Johnson and Beijing Olympian Erica Bartolina.
The 2009 edition of the men’s 200-meter dash will feature indoor 400-meter world record holder Kerron Clement, former U.S. Junior record holder and three-time Arkansas All-American J-Mee Samuels and former USC Trojan Lionel Larry.
