UA Golf Faces Tough Field at Bridgestone Collegiate

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas men’s golf team will tee off at the UNCG Bridgestone Collegiate Championship Monday in Greensboro, N.C. The Razorbacks will be one of 10 team ranked in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index Top 50 competing at the event. This will be Arkansas’ final event on the fall schedule.

Following his win at UA’s last event, the Oklahoma Intercollegiate, junior Jason Turner leads the team with a 72.89 scoring average. It was the first individual title for Turner during his career. He is followed closely by teammates David Lingmerth and Andrew Landry who have stroke averages of 73.08 and 73.67, respectively. Lingmerth also turned in a career-best result in his last appearance with a tied-for-fourth finish.

Senior Barrett Lais is fourth on the team with a 74.92 scoring average and will be making his fifth appearance in as many events this season. Sam Chavez, a freshman from Hillsborough, Calif., rounds out the UA five-man team and will compete in his first event.

The Razorbacks have finished no lower than fourth in the team standings of their four previous events this season.

In the most recent Performance Index, Arkansas sits at No. 22, its highest position of the season. The other nine teams competing that are ranked are Indiana (No. 17), Wake Forest (18), North Carolina (23), Louisville (27), Central Florida (33), Mississippi St. (37), Memphis (39), Kent State (43) and Notre Dame (49). Wake Forest is No. 14 in the current Golf World/Nike Golf coaches’ poll.

The rest of the field includes the College of Charleston, LSU, Maryland, Toledo and host North Carolina-Greensboro. The event will be played on the par-72, 7,197 yard course at the Forest Oak Country Club, home of the PGA Tour’s Wyndham Championship.
