FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas softball team goes on the road to Athens, Ga., for a three-game Southeastern Conference series against the No. 15 Georgia Bulldogs this weekend. The Lady Razorbacks (23-14, 2-9 SEC) and the Bulldogs (32-8, 5-3 SEC) begin with a doubleheader slated for 1 p.m. on Saturday, followed by a single game on Sunday at 11 a.m.
Arkansas enters the weekend after a split at the Border War at Lady’Back Yard on Wednesday. The Lady’Backs defeated Oklahoma State 4-0 before falling to Tulsa 2-1 in the top of the seventh. Junior Whitney Cloer went 4-for-6 on the day with one run and one RBI. Sophomore Teighynne Hulsey pinch hit in game one, lacing a double for two RBI.
Georgia took a midweek SEC doubleheader from Ole Miss on Wednesday, 4-2 and 3-0. Georgia head coach Lu Harris-Champer earned her 600th victory in the second game. The Bulldogs are on a 13-game winning streak coming into the weekend.
Georgia leads the all-time series with Arkansas 21-10 and swept the Lady’Backs at home last year. The last game Arkansas took from the Bulldogs was in Athens in 2006 when Georgia was ranked 12th. Dayna Huckabee scored Blaire Perry on a sacrifice fly to left field in the top of the fifth, giving the Lady’Backs the 1-0 victory.
