Up in rankings

FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas had a huge weekend, beating No. 1 Florida and posting its top two scores of the season, and the Razorback gymnastics team moved up from No. 15 to No. 12 in this week’s GymInfo national rankings.

Arkansas recorded a season high and knocked off previously unbeaten and top-ranked Florida on Friday in Barnhill Arena, 196.70-196.10.

The win over the No. 1 Gators was the second in three years for the Razorbacks. In 2009, the last time Florida visited Fayetteville, Arkansas beat a No. 1-ranked team for the first time ever.

Earlier this year, the Razorbacks beat No. 4 Georgia in Barnhill.

Two days after the win over Florida, Arkansas recorded its best road score of the season with the 196.50-193.775 victory at No. 45 Illinois-Chicago.

Arkansas has won six of its last seven with five of those in Southeastern Conference action. The win over Florida assures Arkansas of a tie for the SEC regular-season championship at 5-1.

In the individual events, Arkansas is No. 12 on vault, No. 19 on bars, No. 12 on beam and No. 7 on floor.

Individually, junior All-American Jaime Pisani won seven individual titles over the weekend. In the win over Florida, she set a career-high and matched the fifth-best all-around total in school history with a 39.60. She also won vault with a 9.925, beam with a 9.875 and floor with a 9.90. Sunday at UIC, she won the all-around with a 39.35, tied the school record and won floor with a 9.95, and won vault with a 9.90.

Pisani is tied for No. 8 in the nation in the all-around, is No. 3 on floor and No. 11 on vault. Freshman Katherine Grable, who won beam against UIC, is tied for No. 15 on floor, tied for No. 26 on beam and is No. 38 in the all-around.

In the South Central Region rankings, Arkansas is No. 3 overall, No. 3 on vault, bars and beam, and No. 2 on floor.

Individually, Pisani is No. 1 in the all-around, Grable No. 7 and sophomore Jordan Salsberg is No. 9. Salsberg set career highs on vault (9.875), beam (9.85) and in the all-around (39.225) in Chicago.

On vault, Pisani is No. 3, Grable No. 12, Salsberg No. 22 and sophomore Amanda Siebert is tied for No. 27.

On bars, Pisani is tied for No. 10, Salsberg is No. 19 and freshman Shelby Salmon is tied for No. 23.

On beam, Grable is No. 7, Pisani tied for No. 9, Salsberg No. 17, freshman Scarlett Williams tied for No. 18 and senior Stacy Bartlett is No. 20.

On floor, Pisani is No. 1, Grable tied for No. 5, and freshman Bailee Zumwalde and sophomore Kelci Lewis is tied for No. 22.
