SAN ANTONIO – Matt McIntyre scored the game-winning run on a two-out error in the bottom of the eighth inning as UTSA (1-4) defeated Arkansas (1-1) 7-6 in the opener of a three-game series at Wolff Stadium. Roadrunner reliever Kevin Carrejo (1-0) pitched one scoreless inning to earn the victory. UA reliever Layne Berry (0-1) allowed two runs on two hits in 2 2/3 innings and suffered his first loss as a Razorback. UTSA reliever Elwood McGinnis recorded the final two outs to earn his first save of the year. The win snapped UTSA’s four-game losing streak to Arkansas and gave Sherman Corbett his first victory as head coach of the Roadrunners. Arkansas threatened in the top of the ninth, putting runners at second and third with one out before UTSA reliever McGinnins got Kyle Washburn to line into a game-ending double play. UTSA scored two runs in the second and led until the top of the eighth when Michael Conner greeted UTSA reliever Salomon Alvarado with a two-run homer to tie the game at 5-5. It was Conner’s second home run in as many games as a Razorback. Brett Hagedorn followed with a solo home run for a 6-5 UA lead. Logan Blanco started the UTSA rally in the bottom of the eighth with a leadoff single. Pinch-runner Cody Erben stole second base and scored on Bobby Alford’s two-out single to tie the game at 6-6. The Razorbacks looked poised to escape the inning until Jeff Fletcher misplayed a ground ball off the bat of Dustin Perez, allowing McIntyre to score from second. Razorback starter Scott Roehl gave up five runs on eight hits in five-plus innings in his collegiate debut. UA’s Scott Crossett extended his career-best hitting streak to 14 games with a single in his first plate appearance. The series continues Saturday at 2 p.m. CT and concludes Sunday at noon CT.
