Van Horn Picks Up 100th Win at Arkansas in 14-

SHREVEPORT, La. – Arkansas starting pitcher Devin Collis had a 9-0 lead before he threw his first pitch and the fifth-ranked Razorbacks never looked back in a 14-1 win over Centenary in front of 505 fans at Shehee Stadium Wednesday afternoon.
The win was also Arkansas Head Coach Dave Van Horn’s 100th win as the skipper of the Razorbacks. He was the quickest coach in school history to 100 wins, needing just 148 games to accomplish the feat.
The Hogs pounded out 10 hits in that first inning, including two each by Clint Arnold and Scott Bridges to put the game out of reach early. Centenary starting pitcher Chad Harper threw 46 pitches in the inning as 14 Arkansas batters came to the plate.
“We had a lot of guys contribute this week,” Van Horn said. “We jumped on these guys early today and pounded the ball around pretty good. Our pitchers were around the plate all day, and we played good defense.”
The Razorbacks improved to 20-2 on the season with the win. The win also gave the Hogs the nations best winning percentage at .909. Centenary fell to 8-13 on the year.
Craig Gentry led the Razorbacks’ season-high 25-hit attack with a 5-for-5 performance. He was the first Arkansas player to collect five hits in a game since Nick Pitts did it against Ole Miss on May 23, 2003. Casey Rowlett extended his hitting streak to 20 games and raised his batting average to .506 with two hits.
Clint Arnold went 3 for 3 on the day with an RBI, including two hits in the first inning. He was 7 for 9 with two RBI and four runs scored in the two-game series. Scott Bridges also collected two first inning hits in a 3 for 4 day.
Collis picked up his first win in an Arkansas uniform with five-scoreless innings of work. He allowed three hits and struck out two with no walks.
Brian McLelland made his first appearance of the season in relief, working one inning. Charley Boyce made his sixth career appearance in relief by working a perfect seventh inning. Gentry came on to pitch the eighth inning, allowing one run on two hits. Trey Holloway got the first two outs of the ninth inning before leaving with arm injury. Scott Hode stuck out the final batter to end the game in his first career pitching appearance.
Arkansas returns home to open SEC play against Mississippi State at 6:35 p.m. on Friday, March 25 at Baum Stadium.
