FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas had a huge advantage in shots and shots on goal, but Vanderbilt took advantage of its opportunities and claimed a 2-1 overtime Southeastern Conference soccer victory at Razorback Field on Friday.
Vanderbilt’s Nicole Adams scored at 96:55 to end the game. Molly Kinsella played a cross from the far side of the field to Adams, who scored from about eight yards out. Arkansas goalkeeper Britni Williams got a hand on the ball, but couldn’t stop it.
Arkansas dominated the statistics with a 22-10 advantage in shot attempts and a 10-5 lead in shots on goal. The Razorbacks were called for eight fouls and Vanderbilt for seven. The Razorbacks had seven corner kicks to two for VU.
"We’ve just been working really hard at being productive," head coach Erin Aubry said. "That was the loudest ‘Hog Call’ we’ve had all year. The fans were really into it. We know we dominated and the fans know we dominated. We just have to work even harder on finishing."
Five Razorbacks recorded shots on goal, including three by Allie Chandler, two by Laurel Pastor, Ally Atkins and Kelsey Allison, and one by Taylor Green.
Vanderbilt got on the board first at 22:59. Megan Kinsella, from the right baseline, curved a shot over the head of Williams and into the far back corner of the net.
Arkansas knotted the game 15 minutes later. Following a foul on the Commodores, Green had a penalty kick from about 30 yards away. Just to the right of the goal, she lined a shot into the top right corner of the net at 37:47.
For the half, Arkansas had a 9-4 advantage in shots and a 4-2 advantage in shots on goal. Each team had two corner kicks. VU was called for four fouls and Arkansas for three.
Williams recorded eight saves in the game and now has 442 for her career to move into third place on Arkansas’ all-time list. She is already first with 25 shutouts and tied for first with 28 victories.
Arkansas stays home the rest of the weekend to play host to Kentucky on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Following the UK game, the Razorbacks are on the road next week for games at Mississippi State and Ole Miss.
