Volleyball Rallies Past Army West Point in Four

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Shaking off a first-set loss, the University of Arkansas volleyball team rallied past Army West Point in four sets Saturday morning to improve to 2-0 at the season-opening Arkansas Invitational. Three different Razorbacks posted double-digit kills while four had at least 10 digs. Junior transfer Pilar Victoria registered her first double-double of the season with a match-high 24 kills and 11 digs.

Arkansas returns to the court at 7 p.m. (CT) to face Kansas in the weekend finale. The first 250 fans at Barnhill Arena for tonight’s match will receive a free limited edition Arkansas Volleyball t-shirt. General admission is $5 while UA students and fans 17 years and younger receive free admission. Students are asked to use the street-level entrance on Stadium Drive.

After being held to a .174 efficiency in the opening set, the Razorback offense rebounded to post a .400 hitting percentage over the final three sets. Victoria was joined in double-digit kills by Liz Fortado with 16 and Chanell Clark-Bibbs with 11. Each hit over .300 individually including a match-high .519 mark from Fortado. Breana Jones added seven kills of her own while setter Bailee Hankenson dished out 52 assists.

Defensively, the Razorbacks totaled 59 digs and were led by freshman Okiana Valle who celebrated her birthday with a team-high 12 digs. Victoria, Monica Bollinger and Kori Ortiz each had 11 digs against the Black Knights. With her fifth dig of the match, Bollinger became the 16th player in program history with 800 career digs.
