War Memorial Stadium Announces Tailgate Policies for Arkansas-Mississippi State FB Game

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Razorback fans wanting to tailgate before and after the Arkansas vs. Mississippi State football game this Saturday, must do so in a specified parking space within a designated area of War Memorial Golf Course. “We are trying to accommodate the many thousands of people who enjoy tailgating prior to a game,” said Gary Smith, Chairman of the War Memorial Stadium Commission. “We have lost 750 prime tailgating areas due to construction near the stadium at the University of Arkansas Medical Sciences and the State Health Department. This has caused us to organize the golf course parking area to meet the demand so people may safely celebrate.”

Smith said the commission understands that many people have long-standing traditions of parking in certain areas of the golf course, but in order to safely maximize the space that is available, tailgaters must now park in spaces specified by parking attendants. Only one space will be allowed per vehicle.

“If people wish to park next to each other, then we ask that they arrive together and we will do our best to make certain they park together,” said Smith. “ This is one of the few facilities in the nation where fans can tailgate at their cars directly beside the stadium.

We now have more than 6,000 vehicles that must be parked on the golf course and only by orderly and organized parking can we accommodate everyone.

We want everyone to understand why we are doing this so they are not surprised this Saturday when they arrive,” said Smith. “In this way we can get everyone in and parked in a timely fashion without delay.” The number of police patrolling the golf course Saturday will also be doubled from the last War Memorial Razorback game. The pavilion located on the golf course will be used as a command center for police.

Tailgaters may enter the golf course beginning at 7 a.m. Saturday at the low-water bridge area off Fair Park Boulevard and at Taylor Street off Markham Street by the golf course clubhouse. Other entrances will open throughout the day. A $10 parking fee will be charged to all vehicles.

Officials ask that fans follow tailgating guidelines that include:

· * Glass beverage containers, kegs, cooking trailers, private golf carts and ATV’s and sofas are prohibited. * Any vehicle left on the course after 6:30 a.m. on Sunday will be towed at the owner’s expense. * Limit tent size to 10 x 10 feet. Tents must be erected directing in front or behind your vehicle. * Please keep the course and park as clean as possible by placing all trash in dumpsters. “Our goal is to make sure everyone is able to celebrate safely,” Smith said.
