Washington Named Preseason All-SEC

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Mike Washington of the University of Arkansas Men’s basketball team was named a preseason first-team All-Southeastern Conference center by the league coaches it was announced on Monday.

Washington led the SEC in rebounding last season with 9.8 rebounds per game and was a second-team all league center a year ago. He also averaged 15.5 points per game as a junior and was a major force in the lane. In his first year as a starter, Washington increased his scoring by more than 10 points per game and rebounding by six. In SEC play he averaged 13.6 points and 8.9 rebounds.

The 6-9 post player from McGhee, Ark., flirted with the idea of going to the NBA draft last spring but chose to return to Fayetteville for his senior season. Arkansas head coach John Pelphrey has repeatedly said that he appreciated Washington’s decision and that he would not have been able to recruit a player of Washington’s caliber nor would he have been able to get a player that loves the University of Arkansas as much.

The Razorbacks play Dillard in an exhibition contest on Monday and return to the court on Thursday night for their final exhibition game against Lemoyne-Owen at Bud Walton Arena at 7 p.m. For more information regarding Razorback men’s basketball or University of Arkansas athletics, please visit ArkansasRazorbacks.com.
