Wednesday football practice report
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas football team returned to the practice field Wednesday afternoon for a two-hour workout. Following Wednesday’s practice, UA’s defensive coordinator Willy Robinson spoke with the media.
On practice:
"There wasn’t as much urging today. They came out and responded. They need to do that every day. Our issue is putting days like today back-to-back. Everyone was running hard, putting hands on balls, executing well. I thought today was a lot better than yesterday. Today, they were a lot more grounded, a lot more focused."
On changes to the depth chart during practice:
"We are making sure we have guys that will tackle. That’s the bottom line. After our last scrimmage, we had to evaluate guys who showed courage, who ran at full speed to the ball. They might not necessarily be the ones who are right all the time but they are doing some good things. And we can go from there. These changes are temporary."
On making depth chart changes so close to the start of the season:
"We still have a long time to get our depth chart set. The moves we make in practices aren’t permanent. Starters are fighting back and earning their positions back. We are going to establish courage, execution and full speed to the ball. "
On being impressed by younger players:
"Terrell Williams, David Gordon, Rudell Crim, Darius Winston. I’m very pleased with how fast they have picked some things up and how they are learning. I want to see them improve with that. But I have been very impressed by them. I’m impressed by the comments they make and the answers they give. It’s always the right response."
On the defensive line:
"Jake Bequette is as close to a professional football player as we have in that group. He’s quick, he’s strong, he’s playing. He does everything right. Zach Stadther is stout and he does things right. Adrian Davis has really made tremendous strides. The development of D.D. Jones has been very impressive. I think Damario Ambrose and Caleb Evans are stepping up. There’s a lot of growth going on at that position."
