Wednesday football practice report

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas football team returned to the practice field Wednesday afternoon for a two-hour workout. Following Wednesday’s practice inside Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium, UA’s defensive coordinator Willy Robinson spoke with the media.

On Wednesday’s practice:

"Today was good. We had a good tempo going. When we started preparing for Texas A&M, we realized it was similar to Tulsa’s pace. It’s not quite the pace we were anticipating after watching the film but it’s still fast. You have to have that type of pace when you are getting that many plays."

On keeping up with the pace of Texas A&M’s offense:

"It makes it harder as the drive continues. We will rotate guys but it’s hard to substitute on and off at the pace that they give you. We learned that from Tulsa last year."

On Elton Ford’s progress:

"He’s coming along well. I think he played well over 30 snaps last week and he did pretty good. He had some production and he tackled very well."

On Andru Stewart’s progress:

"Andru played well in his role last week. He had one penalty down in the end zone but I thought that could have gone either way. He played pretty good and he played pretty physical."

On Texas A&M quarterback Jerrod Johnson:

"He’s a big, tall athlete. He’s has a strong arm and he can deliver the ball from all the angles. If he feels uncomfortable in his own coverage, he’s going to tuck the ball in and take off. Sometimes it’s the run and sometimes it’s the create. We have to rush with good vision. He really is a good football player and he has made good strides."

On Texas A&M left tackle Stephen Barrera

"He has good size and he’s a good athlete. He moves his feet really well. How many different looks he’s seen, I’m not sure but they wouldn’t put him in there if they weren’t comfortable with him. That’s an important side to a right-handed quarterback."
