FAYETTEVILLE — Michael Bernal and Clark Eagan each had two hits, while Eagan drove in two runs, as White picked up a 5-2 victory on Friday afternoon at Baum Stadium. The victory gives White a 2-0 lead in the series. Game three is scheduled for Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Junior RHP Jacob Stone will start for Red, while White counters with redshirt sophomore RHP Landon Simpson. James Teague earned the win on the mound for White, striking out seven and allowing a run on four hits in five innings. Alex Phillips took the loss for Red, giving up two runs on three hits in 3.1 innings. Jalen Beeks recorded the save with two strikeouts in a scoreless ninth inning. For the second straight day, Eagan was the offensive star for White, going 2-for-2 at the plate with two RBI. Bernal also added two hits and scored a run. Josh Alberius hit a solo home run and Alex Gosser and Dominic Taccolini each contributed a RBI. Matt Brown led the Red team at the plate with two hits, a RBI and a run scored. Carson Shaddy was 1-for-3 with a RBI. White jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third on Alberius’ solo home run over the left field wall. A RBI groundout by Taccolini in the home half of the fourth gave White a 2-0 lead. Red got on the board in the top of the fifth on a double to the right-center field alley by Brown to score Garrett Rucker, who singled earlier in the inning. White regained a two-run lead in the bottom of the sixth on an infield single to short by Eagan. Red trimmed the lead to 3-2 in the top of the seventh on a two-out RBI triple to right-center field by Shaddy. White added an insurance run in both the seventh and eighth innings. In the seventh, Gosser had a RBI single to center, while Eagan drove in a run in the eighth on a sacrifice fly. Red was able to get the leadoff man on in the ninth, but Beeks retired the next three batters to end the game and give White a 5-2 win.
