FAYETTEVILLE — Sophomore outfielder Tyler Spoon had two hits and a RBI, while freshman pitcher Dominic Taccolini threw three scoreless innings and junior pitcher Jalen Beeks worked 3.2 shutout innings as White defeated Red, 4-2, on Thursday afternoon at Baum Stadium. With the victory, White evens the best-of-five series at one game each. Game three of the series is scheduled for Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Taccolini started for White and earned the win after not allowing a hit and striking out three in three innings. Beeks picked up the save with four strikeouts in 3.2 innings. Freshman pitcher Zach Jackson took the loss for Red, giving up two runs, only one earned, in three innings. Spoon had two hits, drove in a run and scored once to lead the White offense. Freshman outfielder Clark Eagan and sophomore infielder Bobby Wernes each added a hit and a RBI. Senior catcher Jake Wise had two hits for the Red team. Junior infielder/outfielder Brian Anderson and redshirt freshman outfielder Garrett Rucker each had a hit and a RBI. White struck first with two runs in the bottom of the third as Taccolini scored on a wild pitch and Spoon drove in a run with a RBI single to center. White stretched the lead to 3-0 on a RBI single by Wernes in the bottom of the fourth. Red cut the lead to one with two runs in the top of the sixth. Anderson drove in the first run of the inning with a RBI double down the left field line and Rucker had a RBI single to right to score the second run. White extended the lead back to two with a run in the home half of the sixth as Eagan drove in a run on a bunt single. Red was unable to get any closer as Beeks held the offense down over the final three innings to give White a 4-2 win and even the series.
