FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – For the second time in as many seasons, Arkansas Razorback sophomore Catherine White won the 4K race at the Arkansas Dual as women’s cross country opened the 2008 season.
"Tonight is a great chance to put on the uniform and get a race in," head coach Lance Harter said. "More importantly, tomorrow is a big work out. We will race next weekend at San Diego and as the season progresses, the competition gets tougher. It’s good to see the kids run side-by-side as a pack. That was our goal. We have some good experience and good depth out there. It’s exciting to keep that going."
Clocking a 4,000-meter time of 14:06.5, White took the race title and led Arkansas to a win in the team race. The Razorbacks scored a perfect 15 points with Missouri Southern finishing second with 48 points.
"We tried to keep our pack together and run at a good tempo tonight," White said. "It was good to get our first race under our belt. This meet is good to shake the cobwebs off and get used to racing together again. We try to get our pace back and get ready for the season."
Dacia (Barr) Perkins was the second harrier to cross the line. She clocked a 4K time of 14:06.9. Denise Bargiachi was third on the team and overall with her time of 14:06.9. Miranda Walker was Arkansas’ fourth runner. She finished fourth overall with a time of 14:14.3. Christine Kalmer rounded out the Razorbacks’ scoring five with a time of 14:15.9.
Also running for Arkansas were Jillian Rosen (seventh; 14:25.4), Megan Jackson (eighth; 14:30.6) and Ashley Williams (ninth; 14:48.5).
