FAYETTEVILLE – One month before the start of fall practice, University of Arkansas softball head coach Mike Larabee has announced the additions of Randi Wilson and Shannel Blackshear to the Razorbacks’ coaching staff. Wilson will serve as the team’s volunteer assistant coach while Blackshear will take on graduate assistant coach duties. The coaching newcomers join a staff that includes Larabee and assistant coaches Sue Carpenter and Randi Davis.
Wilson joins the Razorback program after spending the past two seasons as the head coach at Batesville High School in Batesville, Ark. In her second year at Batesville, Wilson guided an 11-game improvement which produced a 20-10 record during the regular season and the team’s first state playoff berth in nine years. She has previous Division I coaching experience as an assistant at Murray State from 2010-12.
Blackshear comes to Fayetteville after a standout playing career (2010-13) at Wisconsin where she was an All-Big Ten Third Team performer in 2010 and finished her career as the Badgers’ all-time RBI and walks leader. She capped her career with All-Region honors during the NCAA Tournament. Blackshear finished her Wisconsin career with 61 extra-base hits, 175 hits overall and an .893 OPS.
Larabee and Carpenter are entering their sixth season together at Arkansas with Davis hired on in July. The Razorbacks begin their fall competition schedule Oct. 1 against Butler CC at Bogle Park. Arkansas will also face Oklahoma State (Oct. 5), Evangel (Oct. 8), Crowder (Oct. 15) and Oklahoma (Nov. 1) in the fall.
The Razorbacks are set to return 16 student-athletes from last year’s roster including soon-to-be-seniors Kasey Fagan and Devon Wallace, both of which were named to the 2013 NFCA All-South Region Second Team. Larabee recently announced the addition of Randi Davis as an assistant coach who will work with the team’s pitching staff.
