Women's cross set for MSSU Stampede

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas Razorback women’s cross country will continue the 2009 season with a 5K race at the Missouri Southern Stampede. The gun will go off at 9 a.m., Sat., Sept. 19 at the MSSU Cross Country Course in Joplin, Mo.

Alyssa Allison, Cali George, Kristen Gillespie, Megan Jackson, Taylor Johnson, Samantha Learch, Miranda Walker, Ashley Williams and Keri Wood are slated to compete for the Razorbacks this weekend. Also scheduled to compete in Joplin this weekend are Abilene Christian, Harding and Oral Roberts, among others.

In the first edition of the USTFCCCA weekly rankings, the Razorbacks are listed at No. 3 in the South Central rankings and at No. 27 in the national poll. The Razorbacks and the Florida Gators are the only two SEC teams represented in this week’s poll.

Walker and the Razorbacks opened the 2009 season with a win at the Arkansas Invitational. Back from redshirting the 2008 season because of an injury, Walker took the 4,000-meter race win with a time of 14:01.5. She led her teammates to a win in the team race with 25 points. Missouri Southern finished with 34 points. She was named the SEC Runner of the Week for her effort.
