Women’s golf goes to Arizona

FAYETTEVILLE – The 12th-ranked University of Arkansas women’s golf team returns to the links for the program’s first appearance at the 13th Annual MountainView Collegiate in Tucson, Ariz., this weekend.

Head coach Shauna Estes-Tayor and the Razorbacks are coming off a big win at the LSU Golf Invitational last weekend against a tough field and face another challenging weekend of golf at eh MountainView Country Club, a par 72, 6,227 yard course.

"We are coming off a really good performance at our last tournament and we are excited to get back out on the course," Estes-Taylor said. "This is a new course and a new challenge for us and we are all looking forward to it."

Arkansas is the highest-ranked team according to the recent Golfstat.com poll at No. 12 this week. The other teams in the field include No. 13 Iowa State, No. 26 Oklahoma, host No. 28 Colorado, No. 40 Minnesota, No. 68 Texas Tech, NO. 62 Baylor, No. 61 Kansas, No. 63 Indiana, No. 71 San Jose State, No. 80 Texas State, No. 91 Colorado State, No. 92 Oregon State, No. 111 Gonzaga, No. 103 Nebraska, No. 117 Kansas State, No. 122 Missouri and No. 142 Wyoming.

Leading the charge for the Razorbacks is freshman Emily Tubert. The Burbank, Calif., native is ranked No. 30 this week and is the highest-ranking player in the field. The rest of the Arkansas lineup includes No. 38 Kelli Shean, No. 114 Corinna Rees, Emma Lavy and Victoria Vela.

Arkansas is scheduled for a 9:30 a.m. central shotgun start Friday with two rounds of 18 holes on the first day. The tournament wraps up Saturday with a single round.
