Women's golf rained out

ATHENS, Ga. – The 19th-ranked University of Arkansas women’s golf team will have to wait another day to hit the links after first round action of the 37th Annual Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic was cancelled Friday due to inclement weather. It is the first time in tournament history a complete round of the event has been cancelled. “It’s disappointing,” said Arkansas head coach Shauna Estes-Taylor. “You work hard all week in your preparation and then you don’t play. That’s part of golf though and something we’re used to. We were relaxed all day and just tried to stay ready in case we would play. Now, we’ll get some rest tonight and try again in the morning.” Rain moved into the Athens area around 4 a.m. Friday and continued throughout most of the day. The morning rounds were pushed back as tournament officials saw a break in the weather around 3 p.m. However, the rain resumed and continued until the course was ruled unplayable. Saturday’s play is scheduled for a 10:30 a.m. shotgun start with two rounds on tap, weather permitting. For more information about Arkansas women’s golf, log on to ArkansasRazorbacks.com.
