FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – An eruption echoed through the halls of Barnhill Arena on Tuesday at 5 p.m. when the NCAA announced the University of Arkansas Razorback women’s tennis team as a regional host for the 2009 Women’s Tennis Tournament.The 14th-ranked Razorbacks (13-7) were gathered around a television waiting for there name to be called, much like the 2008 season but with a different result.“Our team was a bit disappointed to not host last season, and full credit to them for putting together a great season this year,” said Arkansas head coach Michael Hegarty. “The girls set it as a team goal and they have certainly reached it now.”Arkansas will be the top seed in the region which features No. 28 TCU as the two seed, No. 36 Tulsa at number three, and Summit League Champion Oral Robets as the fourth seed.“We’re thrilled to be able to host the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament in Fayetteville,” Hegarty said. “We have a quality field and teams that we’re familiar with so it should set up for an exciting event.”The regional will take place on May 9 and 10 and marks the first time the Arkansas women’s tennis team has ever hosted the NCAA Regional.
