Women's track ready for home meet

FAYETTEVILLE – No. 23 Arkansas Razorback women’s track and field will continue the 2010 outdoor season with the hosting of the John McDonnell Invitational, Sat., April 10, at John McDonnell Field.

Field events are set to begin at 9 a.m. Saturday with running events following at 2 p.m. and running finals starting at 5 p.m. Friday will hold the men’s and women’s hammer throw at 12 p.m. and the men’s and women’s 5,000 meters at 9 p.m. Also competing with Arkansas will be Iowa, Kansas, Memphis, Missouri Southern, No. 9 Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Oral Roberts and Tulsa.

Live results, a live video stream and a complete daily meet recap can be found at ArkansasRazorbacks.com. The 2010 John McDonnell Invitational will air tape-delayed on Cox Sports TV, Sun. April 18, at 5 p.m. CST. It will also air April 23 at 12 p.m. CST and April 27 at 2:30 p.m. CST.

In this week’s USTFCCCA rankings, the Razorbacks are listed at No. 23. Arkansas is one of six SEC schools in the top 25. LSU is No. 3, Florida is No. 5, Auburn is No. 14, South Carolina is No. 19 and Tennessee is No. 24. The 4×400-meter relay (Shelise Williams, Regina George, Edina Brooks and Whitney Jones) leads the NCAA and SEC in the event. On the SEC level, senior Katie Stripling, with a clearance of 14-1.25, leads the pole vault.

At Texas Relays, the Hogs won titles in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (Taylor Johnson), the 4×400-meter relay (Williams, George, Brooks and Jones), the 4×800-meter relay (George, Samantha Learch, Kristen Gillespie and Stephanie Brown) and the pole vault (Stripling).

Jones (200 meters), Williams (200 meters), George (400 meters) and Brown (800 meters) combined for a time of 3:44.40 to earn a runner-up finish in the sprint medley relay at Texas Relays. The quartet also broke the school record in the event. The previous record of 3:48.25 was set in 2007. During the indoor season, the Razorbacks broke the school records in the 300 meters, 400 meters, 4×400-meter relay, the distance medley relay, the pole vault and the heptathlon 800 meters.
