OLYMPIC SPOTLIGHT: Nicole Teter

OLYMPIC SPOTLIGHT: Nicole Teter

Event: 800 Meters

Date: Prelims – Friday, August 15; Semifinals – Saturday, August 16; Finals – Monday, August 18

A two-time All-American and SEC 800-meter Champion while at Arkansas, Nicole Teter will be a member of Team USA at the Olympic Games for the second time in her career.

A national-class 800-meter runner since winning the U.S. Junior Championship in 1991, Teter has enjoyed a competitive renaissance since returning to competition in 2000, including her first national titles in 2002. She had a great year with her runner-up finish in the 800 meters at the 2004 Olympic Trials to make her first Olympic Team.

In Athens in 2004, she clocked a prelim time of 2:01.16 to advance to the semifinals. In the second round, her time of 1:59.50 was just short of advancing to the eight-woman final.

Holding an 800-meter PR of 1:57.97 (2002), Teter finished fourth at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials in her signature event. However, because the third-place finisher did not have the Olympic "A" standard and Teter did, she was named to Team USA.

She clocked a prelim time of 2:05.01 and a semifinal time of 2:10.76 to advance to the finals.

Teter will begin the rounds of the 800 meters in Beijing Friday, Aug. 15. For complete results and details of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, visit http://www.iaaf.org/OLY08/index.html. For more information on the Razorbacks in Beijing, visit ArkansasRazorbacks.com.
