FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.  – The University of Arkansas will host the 2016 Southeastern Conference Cross Country Championship for the first time since 2004 on Friday, Oct. 28 at Agri Park. The event will mark the third time Arkansas has hosted the conference championship since joining the SEC in 1991 and only the second time the race has been contested at Agri Park (1994 – Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park).

The league’s season finale will kick off at 10 a.m. CT with the women’s 6K race, followed by the men’s 8K race at 11 a.m. CT.

Nationally-ranked contenders on the men’s side include No. 5 Arkansas and No. 11 Ole Miss. The women’s race will feature No. 10 Arkansas, No. 16 Ole Miss and No. 29 Mississippi State.

As preseason favorites, Arkansas men’s and women’s cross country teams head into the bout as the programs to beat, having swept the last three championships dating back to the 2013 meet in Gainesville, Florida.

Coached by Chris Bucknam (men) and Lance Harter (women), both programs return four or more All-SEC performers from the previous season, including for the Razorback men the conference runner-up Christian Heymsfield and bronze medalist Frankline Tonui.

Live results will be available for the competition through flash results. The championship meet will also be available to watch on the SEC Network on Sunday, Nov. 6 at 10 a.m. CT.

Admission is free to fans of all ages.
