In arguably the biggest UA upset of all-time, Lou Holtz’s false key tackle run enabled reserve tailback Roland Sales to earn an Orange Bowl record 205 yards on the way to Arkansas’ 31-6 victory over the No. 2 Oklahoma Sooners. Oklahoma’s defensive front was especially adept at reading an offensive line’s initial moves and reacting to the right area. Holtz used that piece of knowledge to design a special play for that circumstance, the false-key tackle run. The play thoroughly confused the Sooners and enabled Sales to earn 205 yards on 22 carries on what amounted to adaptations of the same play.
