Each February, students are challenged to read 360 minutes during the month. Razorback student-athletes spend time visiting each of the nine elementary schools in Fayetteville in an effort to highlight the program. Every student that reaches the 360-minute goal has their name placed in a drawing. One grand-prize winner from each school receives three tickets to a Razorback baseball game where they are acknowledged on the field during the game. In addition, the class at each school which compiles the most minutes read is invited to Bud Walton Arena for a pizza party hosted by our Razorback student-athletes.
The University of Arkansas and its student-athletes have an annual tradition of raising money and going shopping with several deserving kids in the Fayetteville community. Members of SAAC and the Razorback athletic teams are able to give back and take nine area elementary students, one from each area elementary school, shopping.
Since its inception in 2007, Lift Up America and the University of Arkansas have been teaming up with Tyson Foods, Inc. & the NWA Food Bank to help bring the gift of food to the area’s less fortunate. Razorback student-athletes dedicate a Saturday every spring semester to help unload a truck load of Tyson protein. Student-Athletes and staff work diligently to ditribute the protein to organizations from across the region in front of the Broyles Center.
Every fall student-athletes across the Southeastern Conference institutions put on various canned food drive initiatives, benefiting regional food banks and shelters. The SEC will partner with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) members from each SEC institution for the league-wide effort. The drive will be held at designated campus and community locations during the 10-day time period.
Here at Arkansas SAAC members from all 19 respective sports bring their teams out in full force to 4 local Harp store locations and a home football game for a canned food collection. The success of these events along with the support of local organizations have helped Arkansas contribute over 70% of the conference total.
