Expected to get the ball on opening day and be the team's top starter ... Has developed a good change-up and breaking ball to go along with fastball ... Potential to put together a special season ... Struck out six in 4.1 innings during Fall World Series

2009 (Freshman)
Named to the NCAA All-Norman Regional Team ... Earned the win in Arkansas' Regional clinching game by tossing 8.1 innings of no-hit baseball, striking out a career-best 12 hitters ... Allowed just one hit in the career-long start ... Made one start in the College World Series against Virginia ... Allowed eight hits but allowed just two runs to cross the plate in 4.2 innings of work ... Struck out seven Cavalier batters before being relieved in the fifth ... Began the season as one of Arkansas' weekend starters based on injury and illness ... Was used as both a starter and reliever by midseason ... Was brilliant in his first five outings, going 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA ... Picked up wins against Valparaiso and No. 18 Florida ... Pitched six innings against No. 18 Florida and surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits ... Struggled at midseason before returning to form against Oral Roberts on May 12 where he tossed a then-career best six innings and allowed no earned runs on three hits and struck out a career best six batters ... Made 16 appearances, 14 starts, and gave up 30 earned runs on 57 hits, striking out 60 hitters ... Finished the season with the second-most starts on the team.

Smyly redshirted his first season at Arkansas.

Summer Baseball
Spent the 2009 summer season with the Duluth Huskies in the Northwoods League ... Despite his 0-3 record, posted a 3.32 ERA with 44 strikeouts and just 10 walks in 40.2 innings pitched ... Made seven appearances-all starts-for the Huskies ... Opponents hit just .247 against the lefty.

No. 16 on Baseball America's list of top professional prospects in the state of Arkansas in 2007 ... Two-time all-state ... As a senior was 3-1 in an injury-plagued season with a 1.27 ERA and two saves ... All-State and member of Arkansas Democrat-Gazette's All-Arkansas team ...
