2012 NCAA West Preliminary qualifier (pole vault)

2012 || INDOOR: Irwin set the school record in the pole vault three times during his freshman season including a jump of 18-2.5 to win the NCAA title, the program’s first indoor national champion in the event. Following his win at the NCAA Championships, he was added to the watch list for The Bowerman. At the SEC Championships, Irwin turned in a first-place performance with a clearance of 18-1.75. He is the first SEC indoor pole vault champion in program history. He was voted the SEC Freshman Field Athlete of the Year for his showing at the conference meet. Following an NCAA automatic-qualifying effort at the Arkansas-Texas Dual meet, he was named the SEC Freshman of the Week. He finished the meet against the Longhorns with a final clearance of 18-0.5. OUTDOOR: Irwin qualified for the NCAA West Preliminary with the help of four wins during the outdoor campaign including a victory at the SEC Championships. At the conference meet, he set the American junior record in the pole vault with a final clearance of 18-9.25. The mark also represented a school record. During the release of postseason awards, Irwin was named the USTFCCCA South Central Region Field Athlete of the Year and SEC Field and Freshman Field Athlete of the Year. His other victories during the year came at the Arkansas Twilight, Arizona State Tri-Meet and Arkansas Spring Invitational. He was named the SEC Freshman of the Week after his clearance of 18-4.25 at the Arkansas Spring Invitational. Having secured the Olympic ‘A’ standard, Irwin capped his outdoor season with competition at the USA Olympic Trials.

AT MT. IDA HS: Irwin holds the high school indoor record in the pole vault with his clearance of 17-9.25 in June 2011. He improved upon his own mark which he set at 17-7 earlier in the month. He is also the junior-class national record holder in the event with a clearance of 17-6.25. In 2010, Irwin was selected as Arkansas' Gatorade Track and Field Athlete of the Year and won the pole vault title at the Meet of Champions. Competing against a national field, he won the pole vault crown at the 2011 New Balance Indoor Nationals meet in New York. During his junior season, he was the runner-up at the Nike Indoor National and New Balance Outdoor National meets. Irwin was a three-time Arkansas state champion in the pole vault and won six District-2A titles.

PERSONAL: Born Jan. 24, 1993, he is the son of Steve and Tina Irwin and is one of four children with siblings Tiffany, Stephanie and Dakota. Stephanie was a two-time All-American in the pole vault for the Arkansas women's track and field team. Irwin is undecided on a major at Arkansas.
