MADISON, Wis. – Highlighted by a pair of top 10 finishes, the No. 8 Razorbacks placed second at the 2013 Wisconsin adidas Invitational. The Razorbacks upset No. 1 Providence, No. 4 Washington and No. 7 New Mexico.

Juniors Grace Heymsfield and Shannon Klenke each finished in the lead pack, crossing the line in sixth and eighth place, respectively, to lead the Razorbacks. Heymsfield crossed with a time of 19:56 followed closely by Klenke when she crossed at 19:59.

“We are elated,” head coach Lance Harter said. “Our kids took the lead by the 2k mark and then it was a battle between us and Arizona. We had some really nice breakthroughs today. Our top three ran superb and I think we established ourselves as a national contender. I feel very positive and I think it’s going to be a very special year.”

Overall, the Razorbacks scored 136 points to finish ahead of 35 teams in the field, including 18 teams that were ranked in the latest USTFCCCA national rankings. No. 3 Arizona claimed the team title with 117 points to edge out the Razorbacks.

At the front of the chase pack, sophomore Dominique Scott recorded a time of 20:05 to finish in 13th place for the meet. Junior Paige Johnston was the next Razorback across the line in 52nd place at a time of 20:40 and senior Stephanie Brown finished the scoring lineup in 57th place at a time of 20:42.

Additionally, junior Jessica Kamilos finished with a time of 20:43 and freshman Sandie Raines was held out of the scoring lineup for the first time this season, crossing at 20:56.

The Razorbacks now prepare for the 2013 SEC Championship which will be held in Gainesville, Fla. on Friday, Nov. 1. The women’s 6K is slated for a 9 a.m. start.
