FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas tennis team suffered a 6-1 Southeastern Conference loss at Vanderbilt Friday in the firs of three consecutive road league matches in Nashville, Tenn. Arkansas, 10-5 overall and 0-5 in the SEC, got a win at No. 1 singles from Vlatka Jovanovic who defeated Commodore Audra Falk, 6-2, 6-2, in the Lady’Backs’ only win of the afternoon. Vanderbilt, ranked eighth in this week’s poll, captured the doubles point as Falk teamed with Amanda Taylor defeating Arkansas’ Maryori Frano and Karina Ledaja at the No. 1 spot, 8-1. Yawna Allen and Audrey Bordeleau fell, 8-4, to Vanderbilt’s Annie Menees and Caroline Ferrell clinching the doubles point to lead going into singles play. Arkansas, who has not won an SEC match since 2001, also managed a win at the No.2 doubles spot with a victory from Jovanovic and Melissa Cornett winning 8-3, but it wasn’t enough to lift the Lady Razorbacks. Despite the loss of the doubles point, Arkansas still had some fight left with the win by Jovanovic at the No. 1 spot. Arkansas was on its way to win number two at the No. 4 slot with Allen winning the first set 7-6. But injury forced Allen to retire in the second set as Vanderbilt clinched the win. Arkansas returns to the courts Sunday as SEC action continues at Kentucky. For more information about Arkansas tennis log on to LADYBACKS.COM. Doubles1. Falk/Taylor (VU) def.
