Adams earns SEC honor

FAYETTEVILLE – University of Arkansas wide receiver Joe Adams was named SEC Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday.

Adams provided the longest play of the day in the Razorbacks’ 38-24 defeat of Ole Miss with his 97-yard punt return for a touchdown. The return is the longest punt return for a score in Arkansas history, breaking Ken Hatfield’s mark of 95 yards from 1963, and is tied for the fifth-longest punt return in SEC history. It was the first punt return for a touchdown in Adams’ career and the first for the Razorbacks since 2003. He ended the day with 120 yards on three punt returns and made two receptions for 49 yards.

Adams, a junior from Little Rock, is averaging 19.2 yards per punt return this season to rank second in the SEC and sixth in the NCAA. His 119.14 all-purpose yards per game place him ninth in the SEC.

The 19th-ranked Razorbacks celebrate Homecoming this weekend, hosting Vanderbilt on Saturday inside Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium. Kickoff with the Commodores is set for 6 p.m., with FSN providing the broadcast.
