BY ANDRES FOCIL
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Junior All-Southeastern Conference golfer Andrew Dahl was named to the at-large SEC Good Works Team as announced by the conference office Tuesday. The at-large good works team represents 17 SEC sponsored sports as well as men’s soccer and lacrosse. The Good Works Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to their community in superior service efforts.
“It’s a great honor,” Arkansas head coach Mike Ketcham said. “It shows that Andrew is a well-rounded individual not only on the golf course, but off the golf course.”
Dahl has been a member of the student-athlete advisory committee for the past two years and has volunteered his time to several charities in the Northwest Arkansas area. The Salinas, Calif., native was instrumental in starting a canned food drive for the Battered Women’s Shelter. In addition, the business management major helped prepare Thanksgiving Dinner at the Homestyle Assisted Living Center, which provides in-house care for the elderly.
Besides excelling off the greens, Dahl has had an outstanding 2002-03 campaign. He currently cards a 71.5 stroke average and has registered seven-top 10 finishes, including two tournament victories. Dahl’s performances also earned him two SEC Golfer of the Week honors. In the Golfweek/Sagarin men’s individual rankings Dahl is 32nd and fourth among nationally ranked league golfers.
Last week he helped the Razorbacks advance to the NCAA Championships for the first time since 1999, when he tied for 11th with a four-under-par 212, at the NCAA Central Regional Championships in Manhattan, Kan.
Dahl hopes to continue his success as he travels to Stillwater, Okla., on May 27-30, for the 2003 NCAA Golf Championships on Karsten Creek Golf Course.
