The Razorbacks moved up from 41st to 26th in the latest edition of the pseudo RPI’s posted by www.boydsworld.com. Arkansas was 53rd prior to its series at Florida, but moved up 12 spots to 41st following the series. The Razorbacks then jumped to 26th following their series win over No. 4 South Carolina. Arkansas is seventh among SEC teams in the RPI poll. Alabama, the Hogs’ next opponent, is ranked 51st in the RPI.
Van Horn vs. Ranked Teams
Since being named head coach in 2003, Dave Van Horn and the Razorbacks have played 27 games against nationally ranked teams. Arkansas has a 11-16 record under Van Horn in those games. The Hogs went 6-11 against ranked teams in 2003 with wins over No. 17 Kansas, No. 6 South Carolina, No. 5 Auburn and No. 8 LSU. This season, the Razorbacks have wins against No. 14 Texas A&M, No. 12 Florida and No. 4 South Carolina.
Arkansas vs. Alabama
The Crimson Tide has dominated the series against the Razorbacks. Arkansas has only a pair of series wins over Alabama with those coming in 1994 when the Hogs swept the Tide and in 1995 when Arkansas won two of three games. Alabama has won 21 of the last 24 games against the Razorbacks including 11 of the last 12. The Tide is 9-3 in the last three series at Baum Stadium.
Goodwin Successful In Return To Lineup
Junior Clay Goodwin didn’t have much rust to shake off after missing 11 games with a broken bone in his hand. After a defensive cameo at first base against Florida, Goodwin was in the starting lineup for all three games against South Carolina. The Benton, Ark., native hit .455 (5-for-11) against the Gamecocks with a double and only one strikeout. Goodwin was also flawless in the field at third base. Goodwin broke the hook of the hamate bone in his right hand on Feb. 29 against Texas A&M. He underwent surgery immediately following the injury and had the stitches removed on March 15.
