Arkansas Beats Missouri Valley 7-1; Ryan Fox P

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Ryan Fox’s three-run home run in the fourth inning sparked the Razorbacks to a 7-1 victory over visiting Missouri Valley College Wednesday afternoon at Baum Stadium.
Arkansas improves to 6-3 with the victory, while Missouri Valley drops to 3-3.
Razorback reliever Josh Merryman pitched three and one-third innings of scoreless ball to pick up his first victory of the season. Merryman gave up just two hits while striking out five.
The Razorbacks fell behind 1-0 after the Vikings plated a run in the top of the third inning on an RBI single by Jarek Krukow that plated Jarek Delgado.
Arkansas captured the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning on Fox’s second home run of the season. Kirk McConnell singled to lead off the inning and moved to second on a balk. Andrew Wishy then walked to bring Fox to the plate. Fox’s home run was the seventh of his career.
The Razorbacks added to their lead with a run in the bottom of the sixth when Scott Bridges walked with the bases loaded to bring home Wishy.
Arkansas increased its lead to 5-1 in the seventh when McConnell scored on a fielding error by the Vikings first baseman. The Razorbacks made it a 7-1 game in the eighth with a pair of runs. Clay Goodwin scored on a fielding error and McConnell tripled to score Cliff Crouse for the Hogs’ final run of the day.
Justin Leraris pitched the final two innings for the Razorbacks without allowing a batter to reach base.
Arkansas will host Ball State this weekend in a three game series at Baum Stadium. First pitch for Friday is scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday’s contest is slated to begin at noon, with the finale on Sunday scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
