Arkansas Carries Momentum Into Day 3

Tournament Bracket

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Arkansas women’s tennis team carried its momentum from the first two days of competition into Day 3 at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Regional Championships on Kansas University’s campus Saturday, advancing two singles players to the quarterfinals and two doubles pairs to the semifinals.

“It was great to see the team compete so hard for the third straight day,” head coach Michael Hegarty said. “We are close to the championship matches now, and it’s clear we have lots left in the energy bank. So tomorrow will be a fun day.”

In the singles round of 16, No. 3 seed and No. 62 ranked Leolia Jeanjean continued her hot play with a 6-1, 6-0 win, while Natsuho Arakwa came through in three sets, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2.

It was an all-Razorback matchup in one of Arkansas’ doubles round of 16 matches as No. 1 seed and No. 9 ranked Jeanjean and Giulia Pairone defeated Mia Jurasic and Ana Oparenovic, 8-7. In the other match, Tatum Rice and Jackie Carr knocked off Kansas’ Nina Khmelnitckaia and Anastasia Rychagova, 8-5.
