Arkansas Completes Fan Day With Successful Scr

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – After spending two hours signing autographs and greeting fans, the Arkansas Razorbacks hit the field in Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium with an hour-long scrimmage in front of more than 12,000 fans.
Quarterbacks Matt Jones and Tarvaris Jackson each had touchdown passes, while Dedrick Poole, Brandon Holmes and Mark Pierce had scoring runs.
“Overall, I was pleased with the workout,” Arkansas head coach Houston Nutt said. “We held them back a little because we didn’t want to risk any injuries. We’ll take Sunday and Monday off then begin working on Boise State on Tuesday.”
Jones had the first scoring strike of the day when he hooked up with Richard Smith on a 44-yard throw-and-catch. Jones finished the scrimmage hitting 3-of-6 passes for 57 yards and no interceptions.
Jackson led all signal callers with 61 yards passing on 6-of-11 attempts with one interception, but was sacked five times.
Ryan Sorahan hit on 11-of-15 pass attempts while throwing for 57 yards on the day.
Razorback quarterbacks finished the scrimmage going 20-of-32 for 175 yards.
“We are very fortunate to have three quality quarterbacks,” Nutt said. “They all made some good plays and went through their progressions. We still have some work to do, but I think overall they performed well.”
De’Arrius Howard led all rushers with 36 yards on four carries, while Poole tallied 17 yards on four carries.
Defensively, Lerinezo Robinson led all tacklers with six stops, four solo and two assisted. Ken Hamlin and Gavin Walls each had five tackles.
Eddie Jackson recorded the only interception of the day, while Bo Mosley had a pair of sacks.
“The defense was strong today,” Nutt said. “Everybody was jumping around and making plays. They didn’t give up many big plays and were very aggressive in getting to the ball.”
The Razorbacks begin their regular season practice schedule Tuesday afternoon as they begin preparation for the season opener against Boise State on Sept. 7, in Fayetteville.
