Arkansas Debuts at No. 3 in Outdoor Rankings;
BY ANDRES FOCIL
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – With the 2004 outdoor track and field season under way the Razorbacks have found themselves ranked third in the nation in Trackwire’s first top 25 team rankings. Arkansas was given 44 points as the defending NCAA Outdoor Champion and is one of four Southeastern Conference teams in the top five. Florida claimed top honors with 55 points and 2004 national indoor champion LSU is close behind in second place with 50. Auburn was put in fourth with 34 points as it goes into the outdoor campaign as the runner-up from last year’s meet.
“It’s probably about right, but we’re not going to fold our tents just because we’re not ranked No. 1,” Arkansas head coach John McDonnell said. “LSU didn’t do that and they came in and won the title during indoors. If we stay healthy and do what we’re supposed to do this season we’ll be in the mix.”
