Arkansas Divers Set For World Championships In Budapest

FINA World Championships Diving Rosters

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Three Arkansas divers are set to compete at the 2017 FINA World Diving Championships in Budapest, Hungary, as competition begins Friday morning.

Senior-to-be Nicole Gillis, representing South Africa, will be the first to begin the World Championships, diving Friday morning on the 1m springboard prelims. She will also be participating in the 3m synchro with fellow South African Micaela Bouter of the University of Houston on Monday. Last summer, Gillis recorded her best-ever finish in an international event with a seventh place effort in the 3m synchro at the 2016 FINA Grand Prix in Italy. Of the six duos that finished ahead of her, four featured divers who participated in the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Incoming freshman Brooke Schultz will be one of two Arkansas divers to compete on the 3m springboard. Accompanying Schultz is her father and Arkansas diving coach Dale Schultz, who will be an assistant diving coach for Team USA in Budapest. Schultz will also compete at the 2017 World University Summer Games in Taipei, Taiwan, starting August 19. Last summer, Schultz was a finalist in the 3m springboard at the 2016 US Olympic Trials.

Maha Amer, another soon-to-be freshman, will represent Egypt on the 3m springboard, after finishing 28th at the 2016 Rio Summer Olympic Games on the 3m.
