Arkansas Falls At Michigan State

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Braie Speed led Arkansas on uneven bars and vault and scored a career best on balance beam, but Arkansas fell to Michigan State 195.550-185.275 on Saturday afternoon in Jenison Field House.

Speed scored a season-best 9.875 and Hailey Garner added a score of 9.800 on uneven bars, and after one rotation, Arkansas led Michigan State 48.725-48.475. Speed also led the team with a 9.800 on vault, but Michigan State grabbed a 97.375-97.225 lead heading into the final two rotations.

Due to injury, Arkansas competed just four gymnasts on floor exercise and scored a 39.150 in the third rotation. Heather Elswick scored a season-best 9.875, followed by Jessica Yamzon with a 9.825 and Samantha Nelson with a 9.800.

Arkansas closed the meet with a 48.900 on balance beam, led by Samantha Nelson and Michaela Burton with scores of 9.825. Speed also scored a career-best 9.750 in her second career appearance in the event. Yamzon placed second in the all-around with a score of 38.300.

  • Braie Speed tied for second on uneven bars and vault, scoring a season-best 9.875 on uneven bars and a 9.800 on vault. She also scored a career-best 9.750 on balance beam.
  • Heather Elswick tied for second on floor exercise with a season-best 9.875. She also made her season debut on vault and tied for second on the team with a score of 9.725.
  • Braie Speed made her second appearance on balance beam, while Makenzie Anderson made her third appearance on floor exercise this season.
  • Due to injury, Arkansas competed just four gymnasts on floor exercise in the third rotation.

Up Next

Arkansas travels to No. 11 Kentucky for its final SEC meet of the season on March 3 and concludes the regular season with a Senior Night tri-meet against San Jose State and Centenary on March 10.

The Razorbacks will also compete at the SEC Championships in Jacksonville on March 18 and host an NCAA Regional in Barnhill Arena on April 1.

Single-meet tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for youth 17 and under. Admission is also free for UA students with ID. Tickets are also available for the NCAA Regional that Arkansas will be hosting in Barnhill Arena on April 1. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for youth and UA students.
