Arkansas Flies Through First Round At Indian Wells

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. – Arkansas went 2-0 on the first day of the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

Senior Leolia Jeanjean, the tournament’s No. 16 seeded singles player, earned a 6-4 6-4 victory over Sonja Larsen of Barry University in the round of 64. Jeanjean later teamed with sophomore Giulia Pairone to beat Lindsey Hodge and Wendy Zhang of Rice in the doubles round of 32, 3-6, 6-4, 1-0(3).

“Today was an excellent beginning to the tournament,” assistant coach Jovan Parlic said. “Both of our players were excellent in their approach, and we will keep working for more progress tomorrow.”

Jeanjean will play Debbie Vogasari of Kansas in the singles round of 32 at 11:15 a.m. CT Thursday. She and Pairone, the nation’s No. 9 ranked tandem, will later take on No. 5 seed Rose Johanson and Meghan Kelley of Virginia at 4:45 p.m. CT in the doubles round of 16.
