Arkansas Johnson Named Preseason Candidate fo
ATLANTA – After averaging 16.0 points and 5.7 rebounds per game last season as a true freshman, University of Arkansas sophomore Joe Johnson was named a preseason candidate for the 2000-2001 Naismith College Basketball Player of the Year Award in a Monday announcement by the Atlanta Tipoff Club.

Johnson, a 6-9, 225-pound guard/forward from Little Rock, Ark., was among 30 male candidates tabbed by the award program’s Board of Selectors, which also named 30 candidates for the female award. The Board of Selectors is comprised of leading basketball coaches, journalists and basketball analysts. Johnson was joined on the list by fellow Southeastern Conference players Udonis Haslem of Florida and Tony Harris and Vincent Yarbrough of Tennessee.
