FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – After a victory and runner-up finish in its last two events, the Arkansas men’s golf team entered the Bushnell Golfweek Top 25 Coaches Poll on Friday morning, checking in at No. 16 in the nation.

Head coach Brad McMakin’s team is off to its best start in the last seven years after capturing the Gopher Invitational championship by 10 shots, followed by a runner-up performance at the Bearcat Invitational.

Arkansas has a head-to-head record of 27-6 through the first three events of the year, its best mark since the 2011-12 season when the Razorbacks opened the year with back-to-back wins, before going on to capture seven regular season victories.

The Razorbacks have two players with a sub-70 stroke average, as senior Alvaro Ortiz leads the way at 69.1 with three top 10 finishes, while sophomore Mason Overstreet has a 69.2 average with two top-10 performances, including a runner-up finish at the Bearcat Invitational.

Arkansas is one of eight Southeastern Conference teams in the poll, as Texas A&M took over the top spot in the country, while Alabama and Florida are also ranked inside the top five.

The Razorbacks returns to action on Monday, Oct. 9, traveling to Old Overton Golf Club in Vestavia Hills, Alabama, for the 32nd annual Jerry Pate Intercollegiate.
