Arkansas Ready For Valspar Collegiate

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 23 Arkansas men’s golf program is set to play in another loaded field starting on Sunday, March 19, when the team travels to Florida to take part in the Valspar Collegiate at Floridian National Golf.

Nine of the 13 teams are ranked in the top 50 of the latest Golfstat national rankings, including five squads in the top 25. The 54-hole tournament features 18 holes on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday at the par 71, 7,114-yard Floridian National Golf Club. Live scoring is available at Golfstat.com or via the Golfstat Live app.

Arkansas will tee off on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. CT with conference foes LSU and South Carolina.

The Razorbacks are coming off a fourth-place showing last week at the Southern Intercollegiate, surging during the final round to finish 5-under for the one-day tournament. Arkansas has finished in the top five in five of its last six events, including two victories during that span.

Head coach Brad McMakin’s squad continues to run up its win-loss record, holding an 84-31 mark for the season, including a 42-14 record during the spring campaign.

Junior Alvaro Ortiz is playing the best golf of his collegiate career after his fourth top-5 finish of the year last week at the Southern Intercollegiate. He has 13 rounds under par and has produced a counting score in 21 of 23 rounds this season.

Luis Garza is fresh off his first career SEC honor after being named the league’s freshman of the Week following his T-8th place showing last week. The rookie has the third best scoring average in the conference at 71.7.
