Arkansas Tennis Starts Season with Weekend Tou

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Red-shirt freshman Adrians Zguns is currently leading the charge for the University of Arkansas tennis team with Razorbacks playing in multiple tournaments over the weekend.
Zguns has advanced to the semifinal round of the Top of the Hill Invitational at Chapel Hill, N.C. In Friday’s action Zguns defeated Bartlo Oosthinizeon of Radford, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1. He advanced to the semis when he defeated North Carolina’s Nick Monroe, 4-6, 7-5, 10-7.
Having a good outing was true freshman Matt Roberts who defeated Winthrop’s Michael Kwiecien, 6-7, 6-3, 6-0 in his collegiate debut. The glory didn’t last long, as he fell in three sets to UNC’s Greg Archer, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.
Sophomore Kristofer Ivarsson kept Arkansas’ record clean when he won his first round match against Charleston College’s Eyal Omid, 6-4, 6-2. In the second round, he fell to Winthrop’s Clayton Almedia, 6-4, 6-2.
Two other Razorbacks are taking part in the 2002 Shocker Fall Classic at Wichita State this weekend as well. Sophomore Talley Parker had a first round bye, and then lost to Wichita’s Joggan Austin 7-5, 6-3.
Leading the Wichita charge for the Hogs is true freshman Hunter Benson who advanced to the quarterfinals following Friday’s victory over Brandon Hickel of Friends University, 6-0, 6-1. On Friday afternoon he earned his quarterfinal berth when he defeated WSU’s Angelo Manns 6-2, 7-6, 6-5.
